New Home, New Book, & New Giveaway

WINNER ANNOUNCED: The Winner is Melissa (Books and Things)! Melissa, please email me your mailing address to JocelynnDOTdrakeATgmailDOTcom so I can get you a signed copy of ANGEL's INK!

So... I've been MIA for a couple of months, but I've got a very good reason, I swear.  In the middle of December I started a new day job, which required somewhat of a big move.  As in, I was moving from Wisconsin (in the far north) to South Florida (in the far south).  I had a month to find a place to live, hire movers, pack up my house, and get myself south -- and I'm talking far south to a region where people have no idea what snow is.

In the past few months, there's been moving, unpacking, fighting to locate boxes that were lost, fighting to get reimbursed for boxes that were never found, settling into a new job, and finding some good places to eat in my new hometown.  My husband and I have taken the time to wander around town, try some wonderful restaurants, sneak up to Walt Disney World for a day, and lounge at the beach.

Oh... and did I mention that I finished writing a book and handed it in to my editor.  Yeah, I did that too.

I have completed the final book in the Asylum Tales series! It has been handed into my publisher.  It still has to go through several rounds of edits before it's released to the world, but it has at least started down that road.  Of course, we also have to come up with a title.  I'm still thinking on that one.  We're looking at a release in mid-October.

To celebrate the upcoming conclusion to the Asylum Tales (and me finally completing my move), I am giving away a signed copy of ANGEL'S INK, the first book in the Asylum Tales series.  With the final book coming out this fall, now is a great time to start the series.  Just leave me a comment below telling me what you're most looking forward to this summer.  I will announce a winner on Sunday, March 9. (Sorry, this is a US-only giveaway.  I promise that I'll do an international giveaway closer to the new book release.)

In the meantime, I am working on a brand new world with a brand new set of characters.  I am really excited to start writing on this one.  I wish I could tell you more... but it's still too early.  I want to keep it to myself for a little while longer.  Don't worry.  You'll meet my new friend soon enough.

What am I looking forward to this summer? Sadly, there really isn't any planned vacations. I have one, but it's more spring time than summer!

I guess I am looking forward to going up to my aunt's in Wisconsin (around that time, the weather is really beautiful while in St. Louis it's really hot and sweltering!)! And then of course there's all the summer book releases! And movies too. Although for the life of me I can't think of one summer movie I need to see yet...need to see previews again!

After such a cold winter, I'm looking forward to grilling, camping, swimming, horseback riding, gardening; all things fun in the sun! :) I adore this series! Anxious for the release date. Thanks for the giveaway. And congrats on your move/new job.

I'm looking forward to the Farmer's Market, drinks at the Memorial Union Terrace at sunset, reading outdoors, and mid-afternoon walks around a beautiful campus to break up my work day. Really, though, I just want it to be above zero and without snow. :-)

I've applied to be an art director at a camp for the blind this summer. While I enjoy the AC on GA's border with FL in the swamp, I'm praying that I'll get to drag along my just come-of-age niece for her first job. She'd be a great counselor to the group of six to eight kids she'd be assigned to each week (paired with a vet counselor, of course). Plus, many employees get to bring their pets, so my service cat (Yes, I have a stroke-alert cat, and it's not a joke or made-up story for convenience) can likely trot along with the family exodus ten hours due south. Cross your fingers that I get the job... Georgia Lions Camp for the Blind, here we come!

Wow! What a move you accomplished...from one weather extreme to another. Did you leave your snow shovel behind...ha, ha.
I am looking forward to taking small trips this summer to explore places I have never seen as my husband and I moved from Minnesota to Texas several months ago...and yes, we did leave our snow shovel behind. I am also planning to enjoy lots of time at our swimming pool in the community and, maybe, even getting a nice tan for the summer.

It's alright. What are we without mobility? It's within our nature to go out and seek the outer reaches, and not merely settle with one spot. There are a lot of places to see and absorb into the rigors of one's daily life. Hope the south is keeping you well, though you can always climb back up to the north again ;)
